The sixteen figures
Each figure is four lines of one or two dots, standing for Fire, Air, Water and Earth from top to bottom. A single dot means the element is manifest, a double dot that it is latent.
- Puer (Boy)
Energy · Mars · Aries
A rush of raw, forceful energy: courage, conflict and sudden change. Puer acts first and thinks afterwards, with all the drive and all the recklessness that implies. - Amissio (Loss)
Loss · Venus · Taurus
Something slips away: money, opportunity, a relationship, or simply a burden. Amissio is the open hand and the bag turned upside down, and it can also mean generosity. - Albus (White)
Peace · Mercury · Gemini
Calm, clarity and a clean slate. Albus favors thought over force and quiet progress over drama, but it is gentle and often needs help from other people to carry things through. - Populus (People)
Stability · Moon · Cancer
A crowd, a gathering, a great deal of something. Populus is entirely passive and takes on the character of the figures around it: fortunate beside good company, unlucky beside bad. - Fortuna Major (Greater Fortune)
Power · Sun · Leo
Deep, lasting success that grows from a solid foundation. The road may start hard, but Fortuna Major presses ahead and wins through steady strength rather than hurry. - Conjunctio (Conjunction)
Interaction · Mercury · Virgo
Forces coming together: meetings, links, partnerships, crossroads. Whether the meeting helps or harms depends on the company Conjunctio keeps in the chart. - Puella (Girl)
Harmony · Venus · Libra
Grace, affection and pleasant company. Puella brings real happiness, but it is a fickle, charming figure and its gifts may not last. - Rubeus (Red)
Passion · Mars · Scorpio
Hot, fierce, uncontrolled feeling: desire, appetite, anger and violence. Old manuals call it good in what is evil and evil in what is good. - Acquisitio (Gain)
Gain · Jupiter · Sagittarius
Taking something in: profit, achievement, a goal reached. Acquisitio is the bag held open, and it is among the best figures for success. - Carcer (Prison)
Isolation · Saturn · Capricorn
Walls, limits and delay. Carcer binds, restricts and holds things in place. It can mean confinement or greed, but also security and protection. - Tristitia (Sorrow)
Sorrow · Saturn · Aquarius
Downward movement: low spirits, low vitality, lowered hopes. Tristitia is the figure of heaviness, but also of roots sinking deep, patience and endurance. - Laetitia (Joy)
Joy · Jupiter · Pisces
Upward movement: rising spirits, rising fortunes, recovering health. Laetitia is optimistic and warm, and favorable in nearly every kind of question. - Cauda Draconis (Tail of the Dragon)
Ending · South Node · Sagittarius
Completion and letting go. Cauda Draconis closes a chapter, bringing some good with the bad and some bad with the good, and clears the way for what follows. - Caput Draconis (Head of the Dragon)
Beginning · North Node · Virgo
Fresh starts and new possibilities. Caput Draconis tends to take on the character of its neighbors, and often promises a good result after a shaky beginning. - Fortuna Minor (Lesser Fortune)
Swiftness · Sun · Leo
Quick, borrowed success that comes and goes. Fortuna Minor favors speed and a fast start, but warns that what you gain may not stay. - Via (Way)
Change · Moon · Cancer
The road: movement, travel and change in every form, outer and inner. Via is neither good nor bad in itself; it simply means things will not stay as they are.
